Fades in Riverview
A fade is the blend, not the length. The clipper steps down through the guards and the hair has to disappear into skin with no line where the guard changed — and no shelf at the back that you only catch in a car mirror two days later.
Where the fade starts
Low, mid and high describe where the blend begins, not how short it goes. A low fade starts just above the ear and keeps weight up top. A high fade brings the line up near the temple and reads much shorter from the front, even with the same length left on top.
A skin fade takes it to bare at the bottom. A taper keeps a little length all the way down and grows out softer — worth knowing if you can't get back in for a month.
How long it holds
A skin fade looks its best for about two weeks and still looks fine at three. If you're stretching it to five, ask for a taper instead and you'll get more out of it.
If you don't know what to ask for
Bring a photo, or say what you didn't like about the last one. Both work. Four barbers with 61 years between them have heard every version of "shorter on the sides" and they'll ask until they know what you actually mean.
